Permanently docked on North Lake Union, the MV Skansonia is Seattle’s most iconic waterfront venue: a historic wooden ferry with a postcard views of the Seattle skyline. With its hand-carved, wraparound bar in the center of the dining room, polished wood floors, second floor deck, and large outdoor space on the bow, the MV Skansonia is nautical charm meets welcoming waterfront setting. The boat is both intimate and expansive: she holds a hundred and seventy-five guests seated and can welcome groups of two hundred for standing receptions.

What can we answer for you?

No. The MV Skansonia is permanently docked on Lake Union and does not leave the dock. This historic ferry has been permanently retired from service and now serves as a unique waterfront event venue.

Real candles are not allowed. The MV Skansonia has a strict no-open-flame policy, so only flameless candles are permitted. An LED tea light package is also available to rent in-house.

Guests board the vessel via a wide ramp leading onto the boat. The first floor is ADA accessible and includes an ADA-accessible bathroom. The upstairs area is not ADA accessible, but the main event areas are located on the first floor.

If it rains, outdoor portions of the event can be moved inside. For ceremonies, the indoor cocktail hour/dance floor area can be converted into the ceremony space. The rain decision can typically be made about three hours before guest arrival, allowing enough time to set up the chairs.

The MV Skansonia has two marked parking spaces available for tours, meetings, and rehearsals. For events, guests can use a nearby private lot with up to 17 parking spaces during evenings and weekends. Additional street parking is also available in the surrounding area.

I am a Washington native, having grown up in a small town about an hour south of Seattle called Lake Tapps. I was either at the lake in the summer or on the ski slopes in the winter.

I graduated college with a marketing degree and no idea how to use it. Thankfully I attended a wedding a month after graduating and saw the catering staff running the show, and thought, wow that looks fun. I asked one of the servers if they were hiring and the rest is history.
